New Holland

New Holland

The songwriting project of Alejandro Skalany (Donovan Wolfington, POPE), New Holland exists as both a solo artist and a full band. Skalany’s minimal music calls to mind the intricate melodic styles of artists like Elliot Smith or Andy Shauf, combined with the emotional intensity and pop sensibilities found in bands like Grandaddy or Sparklehorse.  New Holland’s stripped-back songs explore themes of anxiety, stress, self-esteem, and love with the unmistakable influence of a New Orleans lifestyle.

In addition to New Holland, Alejandro is also a member of POPE (Community Records), a trio of lifelong friends featuring an alt-rock sound with touches of grunge, indie pop, and country. From 2011 to 2017, he was the bassist of Donovan Wolfington (Topshelf Records), a nationally-touring New Orleans-based indie rock band that released two albums and one EP to critical success. Alejandro has shared stages with bands Waxahatchee, Girlpool, Snail Mail, Pinegrove, Alex G, Lomelda, LVL UP, Adult Mom, and Hovvdy, among other rising stars of indie rock.

“This record is a powerhouse that gives tribute to the artists that inspire it, but more than that it, takes the model of those songs and kicks everything into overdrive, making familiar sounds and chords something else entirely.”– Noisey

“… Sonically reflects late-twentieth century flannel favorites like Hüsker Dü and Screaming Trees.” SPIN

“… An exceptional record that combined the band’s love for slow dripped indie rock and fuzzy shredding driven by the band’s dynamic songwriting duo of Matthew Seferian and Alejandro Skalany and it was only the beginning.” – Post-Trash
